FCRT Annual Meeting & Open House

Auburn Hills Community Center

Dale Hughes

January 30, 2020, 7pm
The Board of the Friends of the Clinton River Trail will host its 16 th annual meeting Thursday, January 30 at 7 p.m. at the City of Auburn Hills Community Center, 1827 N. Squirrel Road. The public is invited to this free meeting; refreshments will be served.

The evening’s special guest will be Rochester Hills resident Dale Hughes who has a lifetime of experience in the world of cycling. The title of his conversation will be “Your Great Grandfather’s X-treme Sport - the Horse, the Bike, the Car, the Future!”  Hughes designed and built the country’s only portable velodrome in the 1970s, the Atlanta Olympics velodrome in 1996 and the popular outdoor International Velodrome at Bloomer Park in 2001.

His company, V-Worldwide, has designed and built other world class velodromes in the U.S., Korea, Qatar, Sri Lanka and recently, in Israel. (Velodromes are steeply banked wooden cycling tracks for special bikes featuring no brakes.)

In January of 2018, Hughes opened the high profile Lexus Velodrome near downtown Detroit and serves as its Executive Director. He is also President of the Detroit Fitness Foundation and Chairman of the Board of the American Cycling League.  Riders on the Clinton River Trail may remember the WaHu! Bicycle Company in downtown Rochester, owned for many years by Hughes and his wife, Christine.

Come meet – or reconnect - with Dale Hughes as he shares the history - and forecasts the

future - of cycling in our region.
