The Power & Promise of Destination Trails
Join Dennis Pace (left, with grandkids) for a journey along the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) – one of the nation’s premier destination trails – as he explores the fundamentals and the impact of a truly “Great” trail.
You’ll enjoy learning how the GAP can be a model for cross-state, destination trails in Michigan. Dennis will also provide an update on the Great Lake-to-Lake Trail Route #1, which extends from South Haven to Port Huron and includes the Clinton River Trail.
For 30 years, Dennis Pace has helped imagine, plan, build, connect and promote trails in Michigan. He worked on the development of the Lansing River Trail and served for 15 years on the board of the Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance, most recently as its chair. Dennis has biked and hiked trails from Maine to Florida to Arizona. Last year he spent several weeks in Pennsylvania with trail leaders and businesses along the Great Allegheny Passage to understand how that destination trail has transformed the region. Dennis’ favorite rides, however, remain along Oakland County trails with his two grandsons where the most pressing question is always: “When do we get to the ice cream?”
